Who Wants To Be A CEO?

"The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the highest ranking executive manager in a corporation or organization. The CEO has responsibility for the overall success of an entire organization." (http://humanresources.about.com/od/glossaryc/g/ceo_title.htm)

The CEO bears the "good company image" when things are well, but "suffers the shame" when all things are ruined. As Dr. John Maxwell says, "Everything rises and falls on leadership."

One time, I ask a friend if he wants to be a manager. Surprisingly, I received an answer that was a counter-flow to my personal goal. He said, "No, I like what I am doing. Besides, everything will be dumped on me if I will be the manager." What he thinks, so is he.

Have you encountered person like this? This kind of person fears responsibility and growth. And, to be successful, difficulties and facing tough decisions are best teachers. What kind of decision have you faced lately? What have you learned from it? How were you able to come up with a perfect answer to the problem?

If you are eyeing the seat of a CEO, be willing to solve tough problems and exercise your analytical thinking. Push your brain to work. Also, learn from the veterans- the leaders in your field. Find a way to have a time with them and learn. Throw them your questions and adopt their problem solving strategies. This is what I am actively doing now.

Too many people are satisfied with just small things. They forget what books, trainings and Google are for. On the other hand (and worse), some pretend they know everything. That's dangerous. Wrong decisions will cost you a lot. Much more, the lives of your people will be totally affected.

Well, you can stay at the ranking file all of your life. But always remember, we are all given a choice to improve our craft and climb the ladder of success. It's up to us whether we want to be lazy or we want to be on the top.

I want to be a CEO. How about you?

Iced or Hot?

I prefer hot coffee, specially cappuccino and macchiato. I just like the idea of sipping it slowly. It makes me more interested to put the cup's bottom at the top with a very relaxing experience. After all, coffee shops are meant to be cool rather hot. The more time you spend sipping that coffee, the more you enjoy the ambiance of the place, the buzz of the people and of course, you enjoy the coffee you are holding.

As an individual, we have different preferences. Some loved tea more than coffee. Some are addicted to wine or alcohol. Some eat rather drink. I mean, we have different taste bud, and ear drum and heartbeat and retina. We are equipped with our own choices. So, if you asked for hot or cold coffee and it was delivered to you, don't complain. Let me stress my point.

It's dangerous to make a decision while burning in anger, struggling in a relationship, brokenhearted and dumped in failure. At that state, our emotions will force us to throw unnecessary and inappropriate words. Lest, we don't think much of the consequence of the decision but rather open a door for a quick escape. Then, later on, when we have realized that we have made a wrong decision, we regret.

We can't complain on the results, after all we allowed it to happen. We can't just give back what we asked for. We enrolled in course that we don't like just because after graduation you'll earn dollars or so. We eat the food we don't like just because it's cheap and blow all the napkins around to make even with your regret. We buy the shoes we were fascinated at and give it away once got home. We choose to be a loner because we are afraid to be hurt. So many things like that. Almost all around the globe. And, we are all victims.

Know what we want. Be firm with your goals. Strive to make way for your dreams. Don't waste time doing the things that distract you from winning. Run the race with focus and perseverance. At the end of the line, we'll find joy and satisfaction. But, rules have exceptions. You might be facing a choice you need to do even if you don't like it. That will require a great purpose behind it for you to pursue.

On the other hand, why do people make life decisions they will regret? They let their emotions rule. They didn't think about it and lay all possibilities. Or shall I say, we are human and not God. We ought not to be perfect because in making wrong decisions, we build trust to ourselves and faith to the Creator.

Wear The Right Shoes

Musicians, like me, would agree that there are people who can play new songs effortlessly and instantly, even without a music piece. The art of listening is much practiced in the world of notes and rhythms. Those who "play by ear" are called OIDO players. (if I got it right. :))

I play by ear. I call it a gift because no matter how I share it with others, some can't just pick up the tones and arrangements instantly. We have to admit. There are individuals who are gifted in music, some in arts, some in math, some in sports. Well, I know people who could play music the way you listen to CD. A round of applause, please!

Have you ever found yourself struggling in doing things right but still remain on the average? Perhaps, your dribbling skills took years to improve while it only took you hours to perfectly cook a dish. Or, you are good with math and dreamed to be an engineer but you fell on the trap of being a nurse instead. Why is that?

It's a matter of choice. Second, it's a matter of priorities. There are reasons why such thing happens- peer pressure, family relations, financial capability and some more. I am a marketing professional, a musician, a coffee-lover, a book-lover and a husband. I can't just figure it out how seamlessly these things fit in my closet. To add on the list, I write blogs too. That's my life and I love the way I am. The real connection that links them together? It's me.

What are you good at? What are the things you do that you enjoy? Are there things you want to try for fun or for experience? Think of the benefits and consequences of the decisions you will make. John Maxwell once advised, "Focus on your strength and forget about your weaknesses." Build your strengths and don't lose precious moments in perfecting where you are weak at. It really matters.

There is a good purpose why the Creator gave us unique gifts. No need to be somebody else. So, just wear the right shoes for you. You should be comfortable wearing it otherwise you might regret for the amount you paid, either in monetary or your most precious time.
